Art Camp in Goa

Goa in June – brings the images of overcast sky, roaring waves and never-ending rain. But, monsoon was anything but near when the participants of the week long Art Camp organised by Gallery Beyond, Mumbai at Kerkar Art Complex, Calangute, Goa arrived.

Throughout the camp days, sunny weather continued. The air was hot and humid. And the artists literally sweated under the sun. The participants included Amitava Das, Mona Rai, Puneet Kaushik, Pratul Dash and Farhad Hussain from New Delhi, Dileep Sharma, Sheetal Ghattani, Yashwant Deshmukh and Anjana Mehra from Mumbai, Murali Cheeroth from Bangalore, Rajan Krishnan and P.G.Dinesh from Kerala, with Suhas Shilker and Viraj Naik representing Goa. The camp started on June 2 continued till June 10.

All the artists came up with their signature works, what could be done best within the limited time frame of an art camp, where interaction often becomes more important. Many a day, some of the artists put down the brushes and took ladles, cooking up their signature dishes too, to add pep to the camp !

Here, we present a slice of the images from the Goa art camp. The works from the camp are on display at Gallery Beyond, Mumbai with the title, ‘Waves and Us,’ from July 1 – 14, 2010
