Mixed media artist Monali Meher, who lives and works between the Netherlands and India, will present a performance titled, ‘In Determination II,’ at Gallery Maskara, Mumbai on October 6, 2009 at 6 p.m. The three-hour-long performance is being done in collaboration with Project 88, where a solo show of Meher opens on October 1, 2009.
According to Meher, “The action of determination is an action of peace. The recent horrifying incident in my home city forced me to manifest the action of determination. I forge this performance not just specifically related to the recent incident in Mumbai but the violence and war in the whole world.”
The exhibition, ‘Departed, Assembled, Wrapped, Captured: Time,’ at Project 88, will continue till October 31, 2009. For this show, she proposes a thought about the notion of time, as unfurled in the title. Through a selection of recent and past artworks, the artist points out her exploration into the physicality of time, the way she embodies, catches, makes it visible and manipulates its past and present energy. Her artistic performances, installations, objects, photographs and videos represent her quest for defining the body as a trouble spot of time and space, connections or mutual extensions. Beyond this quest, Meher draws an ontological thought, time influencing human essence and evolution.
